The Elementor Form + Google Drive Integration Premium Add-on connects your Elementor Pro Form widget directly to Google Drive cloud storage. Automatically stream submitted documents, job applicant resumes, contract agreements, customer identity proofs, and high-resolution media straight to your designated Google Drive folders upon submission. By streaming attachments off your host, you eliminate WordPress server disk bloat, prevent PHP script timeouts, bypass costly Zapier middleware subscriptions, and keep your company files organized in real time.

System Requirements & Prerequisites

  • WordPress Core: Version 6.0 or higher (fully tested on WordPress 6.6+).
  • Elementor Pro: Version 3.12 or higher with the native Form widget enabled.
  • PHP Environment: PHP 7.4 to 8.3 with standard cURL and OpenSSL extensions enabled.
  • Google Account: A free Google account or Google Workspace account with Google Drive enabled.
  • GravityExtra License: An active license key for 1 Site, 5 Sites, or 10 Sites (Annual or Lifetime).

Step 1: Installing the Plugin & Activating Your License

To get started, obtain the plugin package from your GravityExtra account dashboard and install it onto your WordPress environment:

  1. Navigate to your WordPress dashboard and click on Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  2. Select the elementor-google-drive-addon-v-1.1.0.zip file downloaded from your GravityExtra order confirmation and click Install Now.
  3. Click Activate Plugin.
  4. Once activated, navigate to Settings > Elementor + Google Drive in your WordPress admin menu.
  5. Under the License Activation card, paste your GravityExtra License Key and click Save & Activate License.

Upon successful validation, the badge will switch to a vibrant green Active status. Activating your license ensures your website receives instant background security updates, bug fixes, and new feature releases directly inside your Plugins dashboard.

Step 2: Authenticating with Google Drive (Webhook or API)

The integration utilizes a lightning-fast Google Apps Script Webhook or Google Drive REST API connection. This architecture provides maximum speed, bypasses complex OAuth refresh token expirations, and eliminates third-party middleware:

  1. Open Google Drive in your web browser and create a dedicated folder where incoming form uploads will reside (e.g., Website Inquiries).
  2. Copy the Folder ID from your browser URL bar. The folder ID is the alphanumeric string following folders/ in the URL (e.g., 1a2b3c4d5e6f7g8h9i0jKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ).
  3. Deploy your Google Apps Script Webhook receiver endpoint using our standardized Google Drive ingestion script.
  4. Navigate to Settings > Elementor + Google Drive in your WordPress dashboard.
  5. Paste your deployed Webhook URL into the API Settings field and input your default Target Folder ID.
  6. Click Test Connection. The system will perform an instantaneous server-to-server handshake. Once verified, click Save Changes.

Step 3: Configuring the Form Action & Field Mapping

Once your global credentials are verified, you can attach Google Drive file upload processing to any existing or new Elementor Pro Form widget:

  1. Open the WordPress page containing your form in the Elementor Editor.
  2. Click on the Form widget to open the left settings panel.
  3. Expand the Actions After Submit section.
  4. Click the Add Action dropdown and select Google Drive. A new dedicated “Google Drive” accordion panel will instantly appear below.
  5. Expand the new Google Drive panel to configure file routing:
    • Destination Folder ID: Enter a custom folder ID for this specific form, or leave empty to inherit the global default.
    • Subfolder Structure: Optionally specify dynamic subfolders such as [field id="name"] or [date] to automatically segregate submissions.
    • File Attachment Fields: Select which File Upload fields should be transmitted directly to Google Drive.
    • File Renaming Template: Choose to retain original filenames or prefix with unique timestamp keys to avoid accidental file overwrite.
  6. Click Update to publish your changes.

Field Mapping Configuration Table

The table below illustrates how standard Elementor Form field inputs correlate with Google Drive file ingestion and metadata properties:

Elementor Field Type Target Google Drive Attribute Supported Formats Operational Description
File Upload (Single) Drive File Object PDF, DOCX, ZIP, PNG, JPG, CSV Streams file content directly to target folder with MIME verification.
File Upload (Multiple) Batch File Ingestion Array of files Iterates through file bundle and creates individual cloud files in parallel.
Text / Name Field Dynamic Subfolder / Filename Prefix UTF-8 Sanitized String Used to construct dedicated applicant subdirectories or custom file prefixes.
Date / Timestamp Chronological Folder Key YYYY/MM or YYYY-MM-DD Automatically organizes incoming uploads into yearly and monthly archives.
Email Field File Description / Metadata RFC 5322 Email String Embedded into the Google Drive file description for search indexing.

Step 4: Dynamic Subfolder Organization & Archival

Managing hundreds of submitted documents in a single flat folder leads to severe organizational chaos. The Elementor Form + Google Drive add-on supports intelligent dynamic folder path generation:

  • Date-Based Hierarchy: Set the subfolder path to {year}/{month}. The plugin automatically checks if the current year and month folders exist in your Google Drive, creates them on the fly if missing, and places files inside.
  • Lead / User Specific Hierarchy: Set the subfolder path to Applicants/{field_id_name}_{field_id_phone}. Each submitter receives their own isolated directory containing all uploaded documents.
  • Form Specific Routing: Route quote requests, customer onboarding documents, and general inquiries into completely separate cloud directories without maintaining multiple plugins.

Step 5: Preventing Server Bloat & PHP Memory Exhaustion

A major failure point of native WordPress file uploads is that every single file is copied permanently to wp-content/uploads/. Over several months, gigabytes of PDFs, videos, and images cause:

  • Disk Space Exhaustion: Shared hosting plans and cloud VPS servers charge steep overage fees or lock databases when disk quotas are exceeded.
  • Bloated Site Backups: Nightly backup archives balloon from 200MB to 20GB+, resulting in timeout crashes during routine site backups.
  • PHP Max Execution Timeouts: Uploading heavy files via slow third-party webhooks can freeze the user interface.

The add-on streams files via optimized multipart cURL transfers directly from server memory or temporary storage to Google Drive. Once successfully acknowledged by Google Drive, temporary local buffers are cleaned immediately, leaving your web hosting server lean and unburdened.

Step 6: Developer Filter & Payload Customization Reference

For software engineers and agencies requiring custom file renaming conventions, dynamic permission grants, or custom API header injection, the add-on exposes the ge_elementor_google_drive_payload WordPress filter hook:

functions.php
/**
 * Custom filter to alter Elementor Form Google Drive payload before dispatch.
 *
 * @param array $payload Prepared Google Drive API request payload.
 * @param object $record Elementor Form Record instance.
 * @param object $handler Elementor Form Handler instance.
 * @return array Modified payload.
 */
add_filter( 'ge_elementor_google_drive_payload', function( $payload, $record, $handler ) {
    // Example: Append current User ID to filename
    if ( is_user_logged_in() && !empty( $payload['filename'] ) ) {
        $user_id = get_current_user_id();
        $payload['filename'] = 'UID-' . $user_id . '-' . $payload['filename'];
    }

    // Example: Dynamically override destination folder for enterprise leads
    $fields = $record->get( 'fields' );
    if ( isset( $fields['company_size'] ) && $fields['company_size']['value'] === 'Enterprise' ) {
        $payload['folder_id'] = '1EnterpriseFolderIDxyz987654';
    }

    return $payload;
}, 10, 3 );

Step 7: Troubleshooting & Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the connection test returning an error or failing to upload?

Ensure your Google Apps Script Webhook is deployed with access granted to “Anyone” (including anonymous). If using restricted access, Google Drive blocks automated server requests from WordPress with a 403 Forbidden status. Verify the Webhook URL in Settings > Elementor + Google Drive and test again.

What is the maximum file size supported for form uploads?

Google Drive supports files up to 5TB. However, the practical limit is governed by your web server’s PHP parameters: upload_max_filesize and post_max_size. We recommend setting both values to at least 64M or 128M in your hosting control panel or php.ini file for smooth large file handling.

Can I send files to different folders based on form field selections?

Yes! You can either use the dynamic subfolder naming syntax inside the form settings panel (e.g. referencing field shortcodes) or utilize the ge_elementor_google_drive_payload developer filter to conditionally assign target folder IDs based on user drop-down choices.

Does this add-on replace or require Zapier or Make?

No! This add-on completely replaces third-party middleware. Your WordPress site speaks directly to Google Drive via server-side encrypted HTTPS requests. You save hundreds of dollars each year in Zapier subscription fees and avoid monthly task quotas.
