1. Overview & Business Value

n

The Gravity Forms Advanced Field Comparison Premium Add-on allows administrators to configure custom field equality rules. By verifying that two or more fields contain identical information—such as confirming email addresses, matching passwords, or verifying account digits—it prevents typographical errors before forms are saved to the database.

nn

2. Prerequisites & Requirements

n

    n

  • Gravity Forms 2.5 or higher
  • n

  • WordPress 6.0 or higher
  • n

  • PHP 7.4 to 8.3+

3. Step-by-Step Setup Guide

n

    n

  1. Navigate to Forms → Forms and click to edit your desired form.
  2. n

  3. Ensure your form contains the fields you wish to compare (for example, Field ID 2 for Email and Field ID 3 for Confirm Email). Note the field ID numbers shown in the top right of each field card.
  4. n

  5. Go to Settings → Field Comparison in the form settings top navigation.
  6. n

  7. Click Add New to establish a comparison feed.

4. Configuring Feed Parameters & Error Messages

n

Inside the feed configuration editor, specify the comparison criteria:

n

    n

  • Feed Name: Enter an administrative label (e.g., “Email Match Rule”).
  • n

  • Fields to Compare: Enter the comma-delimited field IDs you wish to evaluate (e.g., 2,3).
  • n

  • Custom Validation Message: Enter the notice presented to users when fields do not match (e.g., “Please ensure your confirmation email matches your primary email.”).

5. Frontend Validation Behavior

n

When a visitor fills out the form and attempts submission with mismatching entries, Gravity Forms halts processing and highlights the offending fields with your custom validation text:

nn

6. Developer Extensibility

n

The comparison feed hooks into Gravity Forms’ native gform_validation filter, allowing programmatic adjustments if needed:

n

n // Example: Case-insensitive email comparison filter
n add_filter(‘gform_validation’, function($validation_result) {
n     // Custom logic or secondary assertions
n     return $validation_result;
n }, 20);n

n

nn

7. Frequently Asked Questions

n

n

n Can I compare more than two fields at once?n

Yes! You can enter multiple comma-separated IDs (e.g., 2,3,4). All specified fields must match exactly for the validation check to pass.

n

n

n Can I set up different validation rules for emails and passwords on the same form?n

Yes, simply create two feeds in Form Settings → Field Comparison—one feed for email matching and a second feed for password matching—each with its own custom error message.
