Gravity Forms Version History: See Changes, Compare & Restore Forms and Entries
Video tutorial: see, compare and restore Gravity Forms form and entry changes Watch on YouTube

What it does

Change History records every saved change to your Gravity Forms forms and entries: who made it, when, where it came from and what changed. Each form gets a timeline in its settings where you can compare any saved version with the current form, preview it and restore it after a confirmation. Each entry gets a Change History box on the entry screen with the old and new value of every edited field, and you can put the earlier values of selected fields back.

Set up in 3 steps

  1. Install and activate. Upload the plugin, activate it, and enter your license key in Forms → Settings → Change History.
  2. Choose the defaults. In the same screen decide whether forms without their own settings record form changes and entry changes, how many changes to keep for each form and entry, and the age limit.
  3. Use the timeline. Open a form → Settings → Change History to see its versions; open an entry to see its Change History box.

Settings reference

Forms → Settings → Change History

Setting What it does Default
Record changes to forms Forms without their own switches record saves of fields and form settings On
Record changes to entries Forms without their own switches record edits of entry values On
For each form and each entry, keep The newest 25, 50, 100, 250 or 500 changes; older ones are removed 100

Clean up now Applies both limits immediately (a daily clean-up runs anyway) —

The screen also shows how many changes are stored and how much space they use.

Item What it does
Record changes to this form / to its entries Switches for this form only. Until you save them, the form follows the site defaults.
Timeline Every saved version, newest first: person, time, source and the changes as chips. “Current version” marks the version that matches the form now.
Compare with current Two columns: the saved version and the current form. Added fields green, removed red, edited amber with the changed settings named. Changed form settings are listed below.
Preview Opens the saved version on the Gravity Forms preview page. Sending is turned off.
Restore… Asks for confirmation, then puts the fields and form settings of that version back. Notifications and confirmations are not changed. The replaced version stays in the history.

Entry screen: Change History box

Each change is a card with the person, the number of changed fields, the time and the source. Open a card to see Before and After for every changed input (multi-part fields such as Name show each part). Tick fields and click Restore selected fields to put their Before values back. Download as CSV exports the entry’s whole history.

Recipes

  • Undo a form edit: Form → Settings → Change History → Restore… on the last good version → Restore this version.
  • Find the change that broke a feed: Compare with current on the version from the last day it worked.
  • Undo a wrong correction in an entry: open the entry, open the change, tick the field, Restore selected fields.
  • Audit an entry: Download as CSV in the entry’s Change History box.
  • Stop recording on one form: switch both options off on its Change History tab and click Save.

Upgrading from 1.x

Already using version 1? Update as usual: the on/off switches of your forms move to the new Change History tab and the history version 1 recorded is copied in, so you see it straight away. Version 1 data is not changed. To go back to version 1 later, first click Write the switches into version 1 settings in Forms → Settings → Change History → Upgrade tools, then install version 1.

Update as usual. The on/off switches of each form move to the new Change History tab, and the history version 1 recorded (entry edits and saved form versions) is copied into Change History. The version 1 data is not changed. Old settings links open the new screens.

Developer reference

  • Table {prefix}gfx_history (created and upgraded with dbDelta; schema version in the option gfxhistory_db_version).
  • Daily WP-Cron event gfxhistory_prune applies the retention settings.
  • WP-CLI: wp gfx-history prune, wp gfx-history legacy status|import|write-back|undo.
  • Deleting an entry or a form removes its history. Forms → Settings → Uninstall removes the table and the add-on options.

Changelog

2.0.0 (October 14, 2026): new name and screens; form timeline, compare, preview and restore; entry change box with restore of selected fields and CSV; own table with clean-up settings; version 1 history and switches carried over. Full history on the add-on page.
