1. Overview & Next-Gen Architecture (v2.2.0)

The Gravity Forms Frontend Entry View, Edit & Delete Premium Addon (v2.2.0) is an enterprise-grade solution that transforms raw Gravity Forms submissions into interactive frontend dashboards, member directories, and customer portals. With zero custom coding, you can display entries in modern DataTables, responsive profile card grids, or interactive Leaflet maps, complete with real-time AJAX editing, a slide-over detail drawer, and safe deletion confirmation.

πŸš€ What’s New in Version 2.2.0:

  • Visual Drag-and-Drop Studio Builder: Full-screen studio with 60fps column reordering, custom width resizing, text alignment, and instant layout switching.
  • Dedicated Standalone Views CPT (ge_view): Independent custom post type architecture with clean permalinks (/entry-view/{slug}/), 1-click view cloning, and dedicated shortcode [ge_view id="..."].
  • 1-Click Feed-to-CPT Migration Converter: Instantly convert legacy form feeds into standalone view posts with zero downtime.
  • Modern 3-Zone Blueprint: Intuitive SaaS micro-switches for Header widgets (Search, Date Range, Export Buttons, A-Z Directory Filter), Columns Zone, and Footer Summary calculations.

2. Dedicated “Entry Views” CPT Dashboard

Version 2.2.0 introduces the Standalone Views Architecture. In addition to standard form feeds, you can now manage all your entry views in a dedicated WordPress admin dashboard located under Entry Views → All Entry Views.

Gravity Forms Frontend Entry Views CPT Dashboard

Key Benefits of Standalone Views:

  • Dedicated Direct URLs: Each view post has its own SEO-friendly permalink (e.g. https://yoursite.com/entry-view/client-portal/) that can be linked directly in navigation menus without creating extra WordPress pages.
  • Clean Shortcode: Embed the view anywhere on your site using the streamlined shortcode:

    [ge_view id="20220"]
  • 1-Click View Cloning: Hover over any view and click Duplicate View to instantly duplicate columns, layout settings, and filters for new projects.
  • Independent Permissions: Configure view permissions, password protection, and layout styles independently of the underlying Gravity Forms form.

3. Visual Layout & Column Studio Builder

The centerpiece of Version 2.2.0 is the Visual Layout & Column Studio. To open the studio, navigate to either your standalone view editor or form feed settings (Forms → Select Form → Settings → Frontend Entry View) and click the primary action button on the hero card:

Clicking Open Visual Layout Builder → opens the studio modal canvas:

The 3-Zone Builder Blueprint:

  1. Header Widgets Zone: Toggle top interactive tools on or off with clean micro-switches:
    • Modular Search & Date Range: Keyword search box with date-from and date-to calendars.
    • Export Buttons: 1-click export controls (CSV, Excel, PDF, Print, Column Visibility).
    • A-Z Alphabet Directory Filter: Alphanumeric filter buttons to index entries by first letter.
  2. Entries Columns Zone: Reorder columns effortlessly with 60fps drag-and-drop handles. Add form fields from the left sidebar or click Special Columns to insert Action buttons (View Drawer, Edit Modal, Delete Modal) and Custom Content merge tags.
  3. Footer Widgets Zone: Toggle dynamic mathematical summary formulas across table columns (SUM, AVG, COUNT).

Fine-Tuning Columns (Column Settings Popover):

Click the gear icon (βš™οΈ) on any column card to open the Column Settings Popover:

Visual Builder Column Settings Popover Dialog

  • Custom Column Header Label: Override the default Gravity Forms field title with a customer-friendly heading.
  • Column Width: Set exact column widths (e.g. 120px, 25%, or auto) to maintain strict grid symmetry.
  • Text Alignment: Choose between Left, Center, or Right alignment.
  • Footer Calculation: Apply mathematical formulas (Sum, Average, or Count) calculated automatically from visible rows.

4. 1-Click Feed-to-CPT Migration Tool

If you have existing feeds configured under Gravity Forms Form Settings, you can seamlessly migrate them to Standalone Views with a single click. On the feed settings hero card, simply click:

πŸš€ Convert to Standalone View

The migration converter automatically creates a new ge_view post, copies all active column configurations, layout modes, filters, and permissions, and generates a standalone shortcode. Your original feed remains fully operational as a fallback with 100% backward compatibility.

5. Interactive Frontend DataTables Layout

The DataTables layout provides a responsive, spreadsheet-style interface optimized for high-volume entry inspection:

Core DataTables Capabilities:

  • Instant Multi-Column Search: Fast client-side and server-side search filtering across all displayed fields.
  • Date Range Filtering: Filter submissions between two custom dates in real time.
  • A-Z Alphabet Directory: 1-click letter indexing bar for directories (clients, members, candidates).
  • Native Horizontal Scroll: Wide tables scroll smoothly inside their container without breaking outer site layouts.
  • Built-in Export Controls: Export filtered entries directly to CSV, Excel, PDF, or Clipboard with 1 click.

6. Responsive Member Directory Cards Grid

The Cards Grid layout transforms form entries into clean, modern profile directory cards. It is ideal for team member rosters, business directories, real estate listings, and student portals:

Responsive Member Directory Cards Grid View

Each card organizes form fields into distinct body rows and displays action buttons (View Details, Edit, Delete) in a standardized card footer. You can switch any view to cards via the Visual Builder Studio or by passing the shortcode parameter: [ge_view id="20220" layout="cards"].

7. Interactive Leaflet Map View

When forms capture location information (Street Address, City, State, ZIP, or GPS coordinates), the Interactive Map view automatically plots entries onto an interactive Leaflet/OpenStreetMap canvas:

Interactive Leaflet Map View with Entry Pins

  • Zero Third-Party API Keys: Fully functional out of the box using OpenStreetMap tiles without requiring paid Google Maps API billing.
  • Interactive Marker Popups: Clicking pins displays entry summaries with a direct link to open the slide-over detail drawer.
  • Synchronized Table List: A live DataTables list sits directly below the map for quick text searching and data export.

8. Slide-Over Detail Drawer & 1-Click Printing

Instead of redirecting users to a separate WordPress page to view full submission records, clicking the πŸ‘οΈ View Details button triggers an elegant slide-over drawer sliding in smoothly from the right side of the screen:

Frontend Single Entry Detail Modal Drawer
Figure 12: Slide-Over Single Entry Details View with Full Submission History

Modern Slide-over Detail Drawer with 1-Click Printing

  • Comprehensive Submission Meta: Highlights Entry ID, Form Name, and Submission Date in badges at the top.
  • Card-Based Field Breakdown: Renders every form field in a clean card with uppercase label headers and styled values.
  • 1-Click Entry Printing: The header contains a dedicated πŸ–¨οΈ Print button formatted with clean print stylesheets for physical paper or PDF archiving.
  • Direct Quick Edit: Authorized users can transition directly from viewing the drawer into editing mode with one click.

9. Seamless AJAX Frontend Entry Editing

Empower team members, clients, or logged-in portal users to edit form submissions directly from the frontend without opening WP-Admin:

Frontend Delete Confirmation Modal
Figure 14: Secure Confirmation Modal Prior to Deleting an Entry from the Frontend

Seamless AJAX Frontend Entry Edit Modal

Edit Modal Architecture Highlights:

  • Prepopulated Form Fields: Dynamically loads the entry’s existing values via AJAX into responsive input controls.
  • Full Field Support: Handles complex composite fields (Name: First/Last, Address: Street/City/State/Zip), Single Line Text, Paragraph Text, Dropdowns, Checkboxes, Radio buttons, Numbers, Dates, Phone, and Email.
  • Zero Page Reloads: Changes are saved securely through the official Gravity Forms API (GFAPI::update_entry). On save, table rows, cards, and drawer contents update in real time.
  • Toast Feedback: Confirmation toast notifications provide immediate visual feedback of successful updates.

10. User Privacy, Permissions & Ownership Security

You have granular control over entry visibility and editing permissions:

Frontend User Permissions and Ownership Filtering
Figure 7: Restricting Entry Display Strictly to Logged-in Users Who Submitted the Entry
  • Created By User (Ownership Isolation): Enable the “Created By User” filter in your view settings to ensure logged-in users only see and edit entries they personally submitted. Administrators retain full access to all entries.
  • Public Directories vs Private Portals: Leave ownership filtering disabled for public company directories, or enable it for student portals, customer support ticket dashboards, and member profiles.
  • Granular Action Permissions: Independently enable or disable View Drawer, Edit Modal, and Delete Modal per feed or view.

11. Comprehensive Shortcode Reference

Embed views anywhere using the modern [ge_view] shortcode or legacy [ge_view_entry] / [ge_view_entry_feed] syntax:

12. Developer Hooks & Frequently Asked Questions

Developer Action & Filter Hooks:

// Customize user edit permissions programmatically
add_filter('gefev_can_user_edit_entry', function($can_edit, $user_id, $entry_id) {
    if (user_can($user_id, 'manage_options')) {
        return true;
    }
    return $can_edit;
}, 10, 3);

// Hook into the post-save AJAX event
add_action('gform_after_update_entry', function($form, $entry_id, $original_entry) {
    // Perform custom notifications or CRM syncs after entry update
}, 10, 3);

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Can I use both Standalone Views and Form Feeds together?
    Yes. Both architectures run in harmony. Legacy feeds continue working without modification, while new views can be built using the dedicated CPT dashboard.
  • Are DataTables export buttons GDPR compliant?
    Yes. The export buttons only export fields explicitly designated as visible in your active column configurations. Hidden fields are never exposed to export payloads.
  • Does the Map View require an expensive Google Maps API billing account?
    No. The map view is powered natively by Leaflet.js and OpenStreetMap tile layers, requiring zero API keys and zero recurring API costs.
