The WPForms Intercom Integration Add-on enables you to seamlessly connect your WordPress forms directly to Intercom CRM and Helpdesk. Automatically create or update leads and users, capture custom attributes, and initiate real-time support conversations upon form submissionβ€”all without expensive middleware or recurring Zapier fees.

Prerequisites

  • WPForms (Lite or Pro) active on your WordPress website.
  • WPForms Intercom Integration Add-on installed and activated.
  • An active Intercom workspace (free trial, Essential, Advanced, or Expert plan).
  • An Intercom Access Token generated from your Intercom Developer Hub (or a valid Intercom Webhook endpoint).

Step 1: Obtain Your Intercom Access Token

  1. Log into your Intercom workspace and navigate to the Intercom Developer Hub.
  2. Click New app, name it (e.g. WPForms Integration), and select your workspace.
  3. In the left navigation under Configure, click Authentication.
  4. Under Access Token, copy the bearer token starting with dG9r... or your workspace API key.

Step 2: Connect Intercom in WordPress

  1. In your WordPress admin dashboard, navigate to WPForms » Intercom.
  2. Paste your Intercom Access Token into the credential field. (Alternatively, you can provide an Intercom Webhook URL).
  3. Click Save Settings.
  4. Click Test Connection. A green confirmation banner will appear, confirming that your WordPress site is communicating directly with Intercom API v2.11.

Step 3: Configure Intercom Settings in the Form Builder

  1. Open the target form in the WPForms Form Builder.
  2. In the left sidebar, navigate to Settings » Intercom.
  3. Toggle the Enable Intercom Integration switch to active.
  4. Select your Contact Type:
    • Lead β€” Perfect for contact inquiries, quote requests, and marketing forms.
    • User β€” Best for registered client onboarding, account management, and member portals.
  5. Select the WPForms fields that map to Intercom’s core attributes:
    • Email Address (Required)
    • Full Name
    • Phone Number
    • Company Name
  6. (Optional) Toggle Create Intercom Conversation to automatically start an inbox conversation thread when the form is submitted. Map your message body field to the conversation message.
  7. Click Save in the top-right corner of the builder.

Step 4: Verify Submissions & Activity Log

Submit a test entry on your frontend form. Open your Intercom Inbox or Contacts list to verify that the contact record was created or updated instantly. In your WordPress admin under WPForms » Entries, an administrative note will log the Intercom Contact ID and API status, confirming a successful sync.
