Gravity Forms
+ Duration Field

Add a Duration field to any Gravity Forms form: a visitor enters a length of time — hours and minutes, days/hours/minutes, or a single number in the unit you choose — instead of a clock time. The value is stored as a whole number of minutes, so it sorts, filters and feeds calculations, and is shown in a friendly form such as "2h 30m" on the entry list, the entry screen and in your notifications. Set a minimum, a maximum and a step per field; everything is re-checked on the server, so the browser can never be bypassed. No external service and no outside data sharing.

Gravity Forms Duration Field Setup Guide: Hours & Minutes with Min, Max & Step

Video setup guide: Gravity Forms Duration Field

Core Features

A Duration field type for a length of time — not a clock time (that is the core Time field)
Three input styles: hours and minutes, days/hours/minutes, or a single number and a fixed unit
Stored as a whole number of minutes, so it sorts, filters and feeds calculations and conditional logic
A friendly display ("2h 30m", "1d 4h") in the entries list, the entry screen and notifications
Merge-tag modifiers: :minutes (the raw number), :long ("2 hours 30 minutes") and :colon ("2:30")
A per-field minimum, maximum and step, all re-checked on the server so the browser can never be bypassed
A live humanised preview under the field as the visitor types
Leap-free, timezone-free whole-minute maths — a duration is just a count of minutes
GravityForms-first: no third-party service, no API key and no outside HTTP calls
For Gravity Forms 2.9 and newer

What does it do?

Gravity Forms can collect a clock time with its Time field, but it has no field for a length of time. The Gravity Forms Duration Field add-on adds one. A visitor enters how long something is — hours and minutes, days / hours / minutes, or a single number in the unit you choose (minutes, hours or days) — and the add-on combines the parts into a whole number of minutes on the server and stores it that way.

Because a duration is stored as minutes, it behaves like a real number: it sorts and filters correctly in the entries list, and it can be used in calculations and conditional logic. Everywhere it is shown — the entries list, the entry screen and your notifications — it appears in a friendly, readable form such as “2h 30m” or “1d 4h”. A merge-tag modifier lets you output the raw number of minutes, a long form (“2 hours 30 minutes”) or an H:MM form when a particular message or integration needs it.

You set a minimum, a maximum and a step for each field — for example at least 30 minutes, at most 8 hours, in 15-minute steps. All of them are re-checked on the server, so a visitor who turns off JavaScript or posts to the form directly still cannot submit a duration that breaks the rules. On the front end a live preview shows the running total as the visitor types. It is GravityForms-first: there is no third-party service to sign up for, no API key, and the add-on makes no outside HTTP calls at all.

How does it work?

When a visitor fills in a Duration field, they type the parts for the style you chose — hours and minutes, days / hours / minutes, or a single number with its unit — and a live preview shows the running total. On submit, the add-on combines the parts into a whole number of minutes on the server (the authoritative value), rejects an unreadable entry (for example minutes above 59), and checks the result against the minimum, maximum and step you set, failing the field with a clear message when it is out of range. The value is stored as minutes, so it sorts and filters in the entries list and works in calculations and conditional logic. When the duration is shown — in the list, on the entry screen or through the field merge tag — it is rendered in a friendly form such as “2h 30m”, and merge-tag modifiers give you the raw minutes, a long form or an H:MM form when you need them. The add-on contacts no external service and makes no outside HTTP request.

How do I enable this?

1
Install and activate the add-on, then activate your license key in Forms → Settings → Duration Field.
2
Edit a form and add the Duration field from the Advanced Fields group.
3
In the field's Duration settings, choose the input style (hours/minutes, days/hours/minutes or single unit) and set the minimum, maximum and step you want.
4
Add the field's merge tag to a notification or confirmation if you want the duration in your messages (use :minutes for the raw number), and send a test submission.
