Lawn care, roofing, solar, fencing, paving and event teams all quote by size — but a form can only ask the customer to guess it. The Gravity Forms Map Area & Route Drawing add-on lets your visitors outline the lawn, roof, field or route on a map, and your form gets the area and the length on its own, ready to price.

Add the Map Area & Route field to any form. It shows an OpenStreetMap map (Leaflet and the drawing tools are bundled with the add-on: no API key, no outside script). Visitors draw areas, rectangles and lines, as many shapes as you allow, and can edit, delete and undo. It works with a mouse, by touch on phones and with the keyboard.

The area (m², ft², hectares or acres) and the length (metres, feet, kilometres or miles) are measured on the WGS84 ellipsoid and saved as sub-inputs, so you can use them in calculations (for example area × price per m²), in conditional logic and in merge tags. When the form is sent, the server measures the drawing again: numbers changed in the browser are refused. Optional rules: the shape type that is required, a minimum and maximum area, and a service area that every shape must stay inside. Address search is off until you switch it on. The entry screen shows the drawing on a read-only map; notifications and the CSV export show the values. For Gravity Forms 2.9 and newer.

The map runs in the visitor’s browser with Leaflet and its drawing plugin, both shipped inside the add-on. Every time a shape is drawn, moved or removed, the add-on measures it on the WGS84 ellipsoid (equal-area for the area, geodesic lines for the length; within a few thousandths of a percent of the reference library for survey work) and writes the area, the length and the shapes as GeoJSON into the field’s inputs, so Gravity Forms calculations and conditional logic update at once. When the form is sent, your server reads the GeoJSON, checks it (no crossing outlines, the allowed tools, the limits and the service area), measures it again and compares the numbers: if the browser’s numbers were changed, the form is refused, and the entry always keeps the server’s numbers. Map pictures come from the OpenStreetMap tile server or your own; the optional address search goes through your server, at most once per second for the whole site. Everything else stays on your own server.
