Gravity Forms
+ Team Skills Matrix

Build a team skills matrix from Gravity Forms self-assessments. Keep a skills catalogue grouped by category and the level each role needs, let staff rate every skill on a 0 to 4 scale in one form, and let managers with an allowed role confirm or change a level. See a heatmap of people and skills with role and team filters, each person's gaps against their role, coverage per skill with a flag for skills only one person can do, a who-can-do-it search, a private signed profile link per person and CSV export of the matrix, the gaps and the coverage. Every level is checked and every number calculated on your own server; no outside connection.

What does it do?

Managers, HR and training leads want to know who can do what, where the gaps are and who to train next. The Gravity Forms Team Skills Matrix add-on turns one Gravity Forms form into a skills self-assessment and gives you a skills matrix under Forms → Skills Matrix.

Keep a skills catalogue grouped by category and set the level each role needs. On the form, staff see a rating grid with one row of buttons from 0 (none) to 4 (expert) for every skill, pick their role and their team, and send it. The server checks every level and writes the checked values over the posted ones. Managers with an allowed WordPress role can confirm or change a level after a conversation; the person’s own level is kept next to it.

The heatmap shows people against skills, coloured by level, with the cells below the role marked and the share of the role each person meets. The gaps view lists every skill below the role per person, the coverage view shows how many people can do each skill, who they are and flags the skills only one person can do or nobody can do, and a who-can-do-it search finds people by skill and level. Every person gets a private signed profile link to their own levels and what to learn next. CSV export, entry columns and {skills:...} merge tags complete it. Everything runs on your own server: no outside connection. For Gravity Forms 2.9 and newer.

How does it work?

The skills, roles, people and levels are stored in four tables in your WordPress database. When someone sends the form, the add-on checks on your server that every active skill of this form has exactly one whole level from 0 to 4, that no other skill was posted and that the role is one of yours, then saves the person (one per account or e-mail address) and their levels; a new assessment replaces the earlier one and keeps any level a manager confirmed. The matrix, gaps and coverage are calculated on your server from the confirmed level where there is one, otherwise the person’s own level; spam and trashed entries are left out. Profile links carry a signature made with a secret key of your site, so a changed link is refused. The add-on makes no outside HTTP request beyond the licence and update checks.
