The Gravity Forms Shipping field holds one fixed price or a short list of prices. Real shipping depends on where the order is going and on how heavy, how valuable or how big it is. The Gravity Forms Table-Rate Shipping Calculator add-on works the shipping cost out from your own rate table and writes it into the form’s Shipping field, so the total, payment add-ons, order summaries and notifications all use it. No carrier account and no outside service.

Group addresses into zones by country, state or region and postcode: exact postcodes, wildcards such as SW1* and ranges such as 2000-2999 or BT1-BT9. Zones are checked in order and the first match wins, so a Highlands zone can sit above the rest of the country, and a zone with no rules covers the rest of the world. In each zone add one or more methods, such as Standard and Express, shown to the customer as a choice. Each method is priced by total weight, products subtotal, number of items or the value of any Number field, in bands with a flat cost, a per-unit increment (per kg, per item) and a percentage, plus a handling fee, a minimum and maximum charge and free shipping over a subtotal. Orders you cannot ship are stopped with your own message.

Set a shipping weight on Product and Option fields, per choice if needed; weights follow the quantity and conditional logic. The cost updates live as the customer fills in the form and is worked out again on your server when the form is submitted: a price changed in the browser is refused. Zone, method and weight are saved on the entry, shown in a Shipping calculation box, available as {shipping:zone}, {shipping:method} and {shipping:weight} merge tags and exported as columns. Whenever the customer changes a product, quantity, option or the delivery address, the form sends its field values to your server, which reads the order the same way Gravity Forms does for its total (products hidden by conditional logic left out, quantity fields and calculated prices included), adds up the weight from the field settings, finds the first zone that matches the address and prices every method of that zone from its bands, handling fee, minimum, maximum and free-shipping threshold. The price of the chosen method is written into the Shipping field and Gravity Forms updates the total. When the form is submitted the add-on works the price out again before Gravity Forms validates and saves the entry; if the browser sent a different price or method, the form is not accepted and the correct price is shown. Zone, method, weight and the calculation are stored on the entry. Everything happens on your own server — the add-on makes no outside HTTP request beyond the licence and update checks.
