Every Gravity Forms file upload lands in wp-content/uploads/gravity_forms, and over the years that folder quietly grows: files from entries you deleted, uploads from forms that no longer exist, temp files from abandoned submissions. The Gravity Forms Uploads Storage Audit add-on shows you exactly what is in there. It scans the folder and compares every file with the file references stored in the entries of all your forms — active, spam and trash — plus saved drafts and signature fields.

You get clear reports: storage per form and per month, the largest files, orphaned files (on disk but used by no entry, including temp files older than 24 hours) and missing files (an entry points to them but they are gone from disk). Each report exports to CSV. The scan runs in small batches through admin AJAX, so it is safe on sites with tens of thousands of uploads and never hits a time-out; close the tab and it resumes where it stopped.

Cleaning up is just as careful. Orphans are never deleted straight away: they are moved to a protected quarantine folder (closed to the web) and can be restored to their exact place with one click. Only when you type PURGE does the quarantine get emptied for good, and every scan, move, restore, purge and export is written to an activity log. Custom upload folders set with the gform_upload_path filter are respected, .htaccess and index files are never touched, and nothing outside the Gravity Forms upload folders is ever read or moved. All of it runs on your own server, with no outside connection. For Gravity Forms 2.9 and newer.

The scan runs in phases, each one a series of small admin AJAX requests that stop after a few seconds. First it reads the entry meta of every form and pulls out each file URL that points into a Gravity Forms upload folder — single uploads, multi-file lists, post images — whatever the entry status, plus the temp files kept by Save and Continue drafts and the files of signature fields. Then it walks the upload folders: the default gravity_forms folder and any custom folder your site sets with the gform_upload_path filter, skipping .htaccess, index files and links. Finally it matches the two lists: a file no entry or draft uses is an orphan, and a reference with no file behind it is missing. The results are stored in the add-on's own tables, so the reports and CSV exports are instant. When you move an orphan to the quarantine, the add-on checks the file again right before it moves: still inside the upload folder, unchanged since the scan and still used by no entry. Restore reverses the move, and purge only works inside the quarantine folder after the typed confirmation. Everything happens on your own server — the add-on makes no outside HTTP request beyond the licence and update checks.
